Androfeme (1% Testosterone Cream for Women)
How to apply, measure your dose, and use Androfeme safely
What is Androfeme?
Androfeme is a 1% testosterone cream specifically formulated for women. It is prescribed to address low testosterone levels, which can contribute to low libido (sexual desire), fatigue, low mood, and reduced energy — particularly in the context of perimenopause, menopause, or following surgical menopause.
Androfeme is applied topically (to the skin), allowing testosterone to be absorbed steadily through the skin. It is the only testosterone cream registered specifically for women in Australia.
🩺 Only as prescribed
Use Androfeme exactly as prescribed. Do not change your dose without discussing it with your doctor. Testosterone levels will be monitored with blood tests to ensure you are in the physiological female range.
Where to Apply Androfeme
Lower Abdomen
Apply to the inner lower abdomen — a large, thin-skinned area with good absorption. Avoid the naval area.
Upper Inner Thigh
Apply to the upper inner thigh area. Alternate sides each day to avoid skin irritation at one site.
❌ Do not apply to
Breasts, genitals, or mucous membranes
Face, neck, or scalp
Broken, irritated, or inflamed skin
Areas likely to have prolonged skin-to-skin contact with others
How Much to Apply – Measuring Your Dose
Dose Measurement Guide
In Australia, Androfeme comes in a tube with a small syringe used to measure the cream. Draw up the cream into the syringe to the line marked for your prescribed dose.
Your doctor will prescribe the exact volume to draw up. Always follow the dose on your prescription label — do not estimate or apply directly from the tube without measuring.
How to Apply – Step by Step
Dispense the dose
Using the supplied syringe, draw up the prescribed amount of cream from the tube. Dispense onto a clean finger or directly onto the skin. Use gloves if preferred.
Spread gently
Gently spread a thin, even layer over the application area — no thicker than a thin film. Do not rub in aggressively.
Rub until absorbed
Rub gently in until the cream is completely absorbed. This usually takes 1–2 minutes.
Wash hands
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after applying — even if you used gloves.
Wait before dressing
Allow the application area to fully dry and absorb before dressing (at least 2–5 minutes). Avoid tight clothing over the area.
Avoid water
Avoid showering, swimming, or bathing the application area for at least 2 hours after applying.
When to Apply
Apply Androfeme once daily, at approximately the same time each day.
Many women find it convenient to apply in the morning after showering.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is already the next day, skip the missed dose — do not double up.
After Applying – Important Precautions
⚠️ Transfer risk — protect others
Testosterone can transfer to children, male partners, and pets through skin-to-skin contact. This is particularly important:
Allow the cream to fully absorb before skin contact with others (at least 2 hours)
Keep the application area covered with clothing if close contact is likely
Wash the application area if accidental transfer is a risk
If a child or partner is regularly exposed, discuss with your doctor
Tips and Important Information
Regular blood tests: Testosterone levels will be checked by blood test (typically after 4–6 weeks and then every 3–6 months).
Do not exceed your prescribed dose — too much testosterone can cause side effects such as acne, increased body/facial hair, or voice changes.
Response time: It may take 3–6 months to notice the full benefits of testosterone therapy.
Storage: Store at room temperature (below 25°C). Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Disposal: Do not dispose of via drains or waste bins — return unused medication to your pharmacy for safe disposal.
⚠️ Contact your doctor if you notice
Acne, oily skin, or increased body or facial hair
Voice changes (deepening)
Unexpected chest pain or shortness of breath
A lump or pain in your breast
Unexpected vaginal bleeding
