How and where to apply your Estrogel correctly for the best results and safety

What is Estrogel?

Estrogel is a topical estradiol gel used as part of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT). It delivers oestrogen

through the skin directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. This is known as transdermal

(through-the-skin) delivery.

🌿 Important reminder

If you still have a uterus, you will usually also need a progesterone (such as Prometrium) alongside Estrogel.

Where to Apply Estrogel

Apply Estrogel to clean, dry, unbroken skin. Choose large-surface, thin-skinned areas where the gel absorbs well.

✅ Recommended areas

• Arm: wrist up to the shoulder (inner or outer arm)

• Leg: groin down to the knee (inner or outer thigh)

• Rotate between these areas to prevent skin irritation

❌ Do not apply to

• Face or neck

• Breasts

• Vaginal or rectal areas

• Irritated, broken, or recently shaved skin

How to Apply – Step by Step

Wash & dry

Wash the application area with soap and water. Pat dry completely before applying.

Dispense the dose

Press the pump or squeeze the sachet to dispense your prescribed amount onto one hand or directly onto the skin.

Apply and rub in

Spread the gel over an area roughly the size of two hand-prints. Rub in gently until absorbed. Do not massage vigorously.

Let it dry

Allow 2–3 minutes for the gel to dry completely before dressing. Avoid covering with tight clothing immediately.

Wash hands

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after application to avoid accidentally transferring gel to others.

Rotate sites

Alternate between arm and leg sites (left/right, upper/lower) each day to avoid skin irritation at one spot.

When to Apply

• Apply once daily, preferably at the same time each day.

• Many women find it easiest to apply in the morning after showering.

• Wait at least 1 hour before swimming or bathing after application.

Transfer Precautions

⚠️ Protect children and partners

Oestrogen can transfer to others through skin contact. Once applied, keep the area covered or avoid close skin

contact for at least 1–2 hours. This is especially important around young children and male partners.

Tips for Best Results

• Use Estrogel every day — consistency is key to maintaining stable oestrogen levels.

• If you miss a dose, apply as soon as you remember the same day. If it is the next day, skip the missed dose.

• Store at room temperature (below 25°C). Keep out of reach of children.

• Do not use near open flames — the gel contains alcohol and is flammable until dry.
